The Idea Behind the Lab
Green Budget Lab was born out of frustration. Most sustainability advice falls into one of two traps: it is either driven purely by environmental guilt, with no regard for what things actually cost โ or it is driven by marketing, where "eco" is a premium price tag with no proof behind it.
We wanted something different. A place where every claim is backed by data, every recommendation is stress-tested against real household budgets, and where the honest answer โ even if it is "the eco option is not worth it right now" โ is always published.
That is the lab. Independent, evidence-first, and always free to read.
Our Objectives
Publish Honest, Data-Backed Research
Every article on Green Budget Lab is built on real numbers โ retail prices, energy tariffs, carbon lifecycle data, and household financial models. We never publish projections we cannot justify, and we always show our methodology.
Make Sustainable Choices Financially Clear
We break down the true cost of going green โ upfront investment, running costs, payback periods, and long-term savings โ so readers can make informed decisions rather than emotional ones.
Hold the Industry Accountable
From misleading payback period claims by solar installers to greenwashed product labels, we investigate what the industry gets wrong โ and give readers the tools to spot it themselves.
Our Aspirations
๐ก How we fund the lab: Green Budget Lab is free to read. Some articles contain affiliate links โ if you purchase a product we recommend, we may earn a small commission at no extra cost to you. This never influences our editorial decisions. See our full disclosure.
